Pagan: Beyond the Palisades is the first expansion for Pagan: Fate of Roanoke.

Pagan is an asymmetrical card game for two players, who take on the roles of the Witch or the Witch Hunter. The Witch attempts to perform a ritual of renaturation before the Witch Hunter discovers and eliminates her. Nine villagers are suspicious, and only the Witch player knows who the true Witch is. In each round, players use their action figures on active villagers to draw cards, play cards, gain influence, and manage the Darkness. Additionally, the Witch can brew powerful elixirs, enhance her familiars, and use spells and amulets, while the Witch Hunter gains allies, occupies strategic locations, and ruthlessly investigates the villagers.

Beyond the Palisades introduces two new mechanics for Pagan: Darkness and Purification.
Darkness is a new resource that benefits the Witch player as long as it is in play. It symbolizes the symbiotic relationship of the Witch with the land. Darkness enters the game through playing Darkness cards and can be reduced or increased during the game. Some cards can even exceed the natural limits of Darkness on the cards.
With sufficient effort and focus, it is possible to purify the village of darkness. Purification of a card is done by removing each last piece of darkness. When a card is purified, it is discarded.
